Before and after pictures abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
Posted on April 2nd, 2009 12 commentsAbdominoplasty, or “tummy tuck” continues to be a very sought after, but also very frequently misunderstood operation. In my practice I do still frequently see patients who seem to be of the opinion that abdominoplasty is a weight loss operation which it is absolutely not, but should rather be labelled as a body reshaping operation.
We do here case examples of abdominoplasty surgery out of our practice:

Patient after substantiative weight loss
Rectus muscle laxity
Lax skin with stretchmarks
Diet resistant fat deposits (love handles)

Result after abdominoplasty
Rectus muscle plication
Liposuction flanks (love handles)
6 months post surgery
We do also frequently combine abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with breast surgeryPatient with weight loss
Sagginess of breasts
Rectus muscle diastasis
Lax stretched skin
ResultAbdominoplasty (Tummy tuck)
Together with reast uplift and augmentation
Inverted T-scar with subglandular implants
Liposuction flanks

I do agree that abdominoplasty abdominoplasty is a body reshaping operation. I think in a few years it will be done as frequently as now is the nose operation.

I think this is already the case. I think abdominoplasty is already a more frequently demanded operation than rhinoplasty.

Is it true that one cannot cobine abdominoplasty with liposuction ?

Yes and no. You can combine abdominoplasty with liposuction of the flanks, which makes sense and is safe. I would rather not recommend to combine abdominoplasty with lipoosuction in the “midriff” because this may very well compromise perfusion of the dermolipectomy flap.

Is pregnancy after a tummy tuck a problem ? would I have to do it all again ?

Pregnancy after a tummy tuck can possibly be a problem. This is difficult to predict. The core point is the muscle plication (suturing together of muscles). This can come under consdierable stress in cases of high birth weight or especially in cases of twin pregnancy. bUt it is not sure that this happens

What is maximum BMI for having a tummy tuck ? i have 38 and I can´t get it any lower.

Dear Karen,
in the UK, current heathcare commission guidelines suggest your BMI should be under 35. You need to appreciate that the risk of systemic complications rises with a BMI higher than that. The key question is if you have exhausted all dietetic possibilities.
If this is the case, and you are absolutely unable to lose any more weight, often impaired because of the panniculus (flobby skin) you originally want to get rid off in the first place, exceptions apply, which need to be discussed with the anestesist. -

I am going to have a cesarean shortly, can I have a tummy tuck in the same session?
I have heard different things about this… -

It is a strange coincidence ebut I have just had to similar requests via our webpage.
My opinion is that it is better to step up into two procedrues, first cesarean, later abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).. There are surgeons from the United States propagating this approach, but to my understanding at the price of significantly higher complicaction rates, mainly seroma.
This may or may not be related to the changes in blood clotting in of cesarean patients.
