  • The most frequent questions around cosmetic surgery

Posted on September 17th, 2009 admin No comments

Question: What is the most popular procedure in cosmetic surgery ?

Dr.Aslani:In women breast augmentation and liposuction, in men gynecomastia(male breast reduction),rhinoplasty and liposuction. This only reflects my personal experience though. Different surgeons may have different views regarding that

Question:Can I do anyhing before surgery to improve my skin ?

Dr.Aslani:You can prepare your skin with antiseptic solutions like for instance Hibiclens. You can furthermore treat your skin with moisturising lotions. I am unsure what effect that really has, but this is recommended. I do regard beneficial effects from so-called “scar-ointments” as purely fictional.

Question:Is it true that cosmetic surgery in Spain is more popular than anywhere else in Europe?

    Dr.Aslani:Yes, I should think so.

Question:Do you think that the current situation has got an adverse effect on quality in cosmetic surgery , especially in Spain ?

Dr.Aslani:I hope not, but I am very much afraid this may well be the case.

Especially in the cosmetic surgery sector in Spain, we see very aggressive marketing moves from UK companies into the sector. We are seeing more and more petients hooked on unrealistic promises paired with ridicolously low pricing. I am afraid that this will not have any good long term effect neither on the cosmetic surgery sector in Spain, nor in the UK:

Question:Is it true that I can only have my eyelids done twice in a lifetime ?

Dr.Aslani:No, not entirely. You are likely to refer to the lower eyelids. There may be some truth in that regarding them though.Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is considerbly more complicated than upper.

    Question:Is a deep peeling a good subtitute for a facelift ?

Dr.Aslani:Absolutely not. The mechanism as well as the indication are completely different. A peeling tackles different problems than a facelift.

The two can be combined, but I suggest to do one after the other and not two at the same time.

  • FAQ wrinkle fillers / botox

Botox | Dr. AslaniThere are various possibilities for “injection treatments” in aesthetic medicine.

The two main options, though often confused, are botox as opposed to dermal fillers. The differences between botox and fillers are essential and in many cases misunderstood.

Both aim at facial rejuvenation without the need for surgery, and with minimal distress for patients.

If applied for suitabel indications, both botox and wrinkle fillers can herald very satisfying results without resorting to surgery.

The concept of these two treatments could hardly be more different, one (botox) weakening the muscle action leading to crease formation, the other (dermal wrinkle fillers) replenishing existing skin creases.

There are no  strict rules for any aesthetic treatment, but to facilitate patient understanding I normally say as a rule of thumb that botox work best in the upper third of the face and dermal wrinkle fillers in the lower half of the face.

Especially the nasolabial folds are suitable for tretament with dermal fillers, where effects of dermal filler treatment are normally very satisfying

Levelling of these creases  gives the a rounder and smoother appearence, therewith a more youthful look.

Treatment of dermal wrinkle fillers  (for instance Restylane) with botox can be combined in selected cases, depending on the clinical situation.

Main column of dermal filler treatment is hyaluronic acid, which appears under different brands, with or without local anaesthetic.

Allergic reaction, granuloma formation or minor infection is possible but very rare, with wrinkle fillers(restylane), and since the effect is not permanent ,neither are side effects (which is beneficial). The same naturally applies to botox.

This is one of the main reasons why Dr.Aslani from Cirumed Clinic Marbella generally avoids permanent fillers for aesthetic treatent in the face.”Permanent results sound appealing to patients, but be awaer that this is clearly outweighed by possible problems also being permanent”, says Dr.Aslani.

Generally, Cirumed Clinic notice a substantial increase in demand for aesthetic, non-surgical treatments such as botox and restylane in Marbella.

  • Breast enlargement-what implant to take ?

Posted on February 19th, 2009 cirumedclinic No comments

“There is no easy answer to this question, because not every breast is the same”, says Dr.Alexander Aslani, who is head Consultant Plastic Surgeon of the Cirumed Clinic Marbella and Consultant Plastic Surgeon in London´s Highgate Hospital.

“It depends very much on the breast and , more importantly, on patients preference. Different patients prefer different looks, and this has to be taken into account when planning the procedure.
Generally, The question is where fullness is required….if it is on the upper pole, a round implant may be the better option, especially if the implant is positioned behind the breast muscle, choice of breast implant, but this depends very much on the case.I prefer to show patients pictures with relevant examples, and then we make a choice together .Breast surgery is not just a “boob job” but a very individual and every breast is different and therefore requires different solutions,” says Dr Aslani.

Round implants or anatomical ? Again this this depends, says Dr.Aslani. People perceive that breast enlargement with anatomical implants as more natural.

“Anaomical implants behind the muscle can occasionally look a bit flat on top, if the breast is fairly flat on top in the first place and the muscle rather strong,” so Dr.Alexander.Aslani.

Generally breast augmentation is one of the operations with he highest degree of patient satisfaction, which tends to give patients an enormous boost in self confidence.

Materials used are, without exception, cohesive silicone-gel filled implants.

Breast augmentation/breast enlargment in Cirumed Clinic Marbella continues to be one of the most popular procedures for patients from abroad seeking cosmetic surgery in Spain, the backbone of medical tourism in Marbella.

There is a couple of other procedures breast enlargement can safely be combined with, says Aslani, depending on the nature of the request.

A frequently asked question is….can Breast enlargement be done as a day case ? Yes, it can says Dr.Aslani, but he suggest for patients not to enter without a “plan B” to possibly stay overnight.

How long do breast implants last ?

“At present, we don’t know”, says Dr.Alexander Aslani.”We presume that patients can enjoy the effects of a breast enlargement for as long as there are no problems. Should problems occur, action might naturally have to be taken and the breast implants exchanged”.
